How are "RPG" Mario games different from regular ones?

I thought "Super Paper Mario" for Wii looked like a pretty neat game, what with the 2-D to 3-D effects. However, I keep on hearing it described as an RPG game- a bit of a turn-off for someone who associates them with World of Warcraft. So, how does "Super Paper Mario's" RPG-styling make it different from, say, "Super Mario Galaxy," or "New Super Mario Bros?"|||Paper Mario is really, really different from Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros. You see, in Paper Mario, when you touch an enemy, the screen changes into a theater and you can choose what attacks and moves you want to use. You can use items to heal, to attack, or to freeze or make enemies asleep, etc. Also, what is awesome about Paper Mario is that in Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, you can turn into a paper boat, a paper airplane, you name it! Also, in Paper Mario you have a partner with abilities that can help you in battle and in field. For instance, Goombella, the first partner you get, can tell you about the place you are in and if you stand near a person Goombella can tell you info about the guy and stuff. Also, in battles, you can appeal, run away, charge, jump on enemies, ground pound, use you hammer, use items, etc. Oh and no offense but you should get Paper Mario The Thousand Year door for the Gamecube instead of Super Paper Mario for the Wii. Really, everything I wrote here was about Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. You can't compare Super Paper Mario to Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. It's like comparing Pizza with Dark Chocolate. Pizza is way better right? Well, I don't know where to get Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. Search in the Internet. Well, I will tell you why Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door is better.

The battles in Super Paper Mario are in the field, in Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door are in a theater. In Super Paper Mario you have cheap, bad partners. In Paper Mario 2 the partners are awesome. Paper Mario 2 is more fun. Everything is better in Paper Mario 2. The people in Super Paper Mario are made out of shapes. In Paper Mario 2, they aren't. In Super Paper Mario you collect Pure Hearts. xD. In Paper Mario 2, you collect Crystal Stars. The story and gameplay is better in Paper Mario 2. In Super Paper Mario, the world doesn't really look a lot like paper. In Paper Mario 2 some of the effects are oh my god. AWESOME. Paper Mario 2 has better humor. Well, I guess that's it. I hope you at least play in once in your life. Paper Mario 2 is the best in the Paper Mario series.|||A type of game, played either with pencil and paper, on a computer, or through another medium, in which the player(s) assume the role of a character. Game play is usually determined in part by statistics attached to each character and frequently influenced by a character class...

OR

A role-playing game (RPG) is a broad family of games in which players assume the roles of characters, or take control of one or more avatars, in a fictional setting. Actions taken within the game succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines...

In my opinion most RPGs take longer to play, exept Luigi's mansion, which takes about 2 hours.|||WOW is basically DAD which Midevil, kind of stuff. Darkness, secret powers, Metal and stuff. Stuff from Ireland, Scottland, and England. During the introduction of RPG games from the west to the east, many Japanese programmers, and artists decided to make there own variation of games........This was back in the mid 1970's during the Microcomputer boom!!!

Basically most videogames from Japan that is adventure is really RPG games. In the case of Mario and Sonic type games. Even shooters are RPG's.

In the west, including China, and Korea. Many adventures games lead you in exploring a haunted house, or something like that. Being able to interact with objects.

Paper Mario on the N64 is basically the unofficial sequel to Mario RPG on the SNES. Since Sqaure owned a license on all the non-nintendo characters, they had to reshape it into there own. Super Paper Mario is again an RPG but in the case of an adventure game.

So to answer your questions, in comparison to Zelda, Soul Revear, WOW, PSO this is not an RPG game. However in japan a game like WOW, is no diffent then Mario.

There is no differnce between, all three mario games. Since they all fall under the RPG that is from Japan. There has been various of other Adventures games in the west that does the same exact thing.

Imagine if you could strip a board game down to it's bare bones, and make everything as simple as possible. That is how you should conisder these adventure games RPG's. It does not mean your going to like them, or you need to play them. Like how I prefer Wario over Mario. Or Bomberman over Megaman. You do not need to play every single RPG/Adventure game out there.

There is no difference between all Mario games like the ones you mentioned. Asides that Paper Mario is a direct sequel from Mario RPG and has attributes.|||It's considered an rpg because you upgrade your stats through experience you earn and take turns attacking and collect items like mushrooms(potions). But as the paper mario series progressed the games got less like an rpg. Super Paper Mario isn't really an rpg and it is my least favorite of the paper mario series. If you could somehow play the original Paper Mario on the N64 I would highly advise you play, it is the greatest game of all time. The 2nd one is great as well.|||I played the origional paper mario on N64. It is a bit like an rpg where you take turns attacking but it is so much fun. I hate rpgs to but trust me its worth buying. Super is in the name after all
